Mary Beth Johnson, MA, LPCC

Mary Beth (she/they) assumed her role as a therapist after more than a decade of employment as a wilderness therapy guide, outdoor educator, and behavioral health specialist. She worked with adolescents and adults, as well as their families, in various therapeutic settings. In these roles, they discovered the positive mental health impacts of community healing, nature connection, somatic experiencing, mindfulness, and adventure.

Mary Beth is a somatically trained therapist who uses a direct and relational approach in their practice. She believes authentic connection and trauma-informed care are central to building an effective therapeutic relationship. Moreover, they are mindful of systems that impact clients and seek to understand their culture and context over time. In addition to traditional talk therapy, Mary Beth offers extended sessions in a wilderness setting for those who are interested.

Mary Beth maintains a social justice lens through engagement in community activism. They were the cofounder of an arts program for girls and queer youth in Richmond, Virginia, and has also volunteered redistributing goods and funds at a mutual aid organization. In her free time, Mary Beth enjoys traveling, rock climbing, hiking, biking, and spending time with her family.
